20% Average FTP Improvement
1,000+ Athletes Coached
100% Custom Plans

Most cyclists plateau at the same place: they've built a decent aerobic base, but they can't seem to push their FTP higher. They grind out miles, they log the time on the bike, but progress stalls. And they have no idea why.

It's the most common pattern in self-coached cycling. You feel fit. Your long rides are solid. But when you test your FTP, the number barely moves from three months ago. Your power-to-weight ratio isn't improving. Your pace on the climbs is unchanged. You're putting in the work but not getting the results.

This isn't a fitness plateau. It's a programming problem. Cycling performance is built on three core principles most self-coached riders miss: power-based periodization that structures training around your FTP, strategic intensity that builds capacity without burning you out, and race-specific preparation that teaches you to deliver your fitness when it matters. A generic training plan can build your base. It can't teach you how to convert fitness into performance on the bike.

What separates 29029 Coaching from off-the-shelf cycling programs is that we treat power development, periodization, and race tactics as core training disciplines — not extras. Your coach designs training around your power zones, structures your build phases strategically, and develops the race execution that turns your fitness into faster times on the course.

The Coaching Difference

Cycling demands precision. The numbers don't lie — your power meter tells you exactly what you're capable of and exactly where you're falling short. The difference between a good cyclist and a fast one is almost never about how many miles you ride — it's about how strategically you train, how intelligently you manage intensity, and how prepared you are to execute at your target power.

Coached cycling training addresses the full picture: power-based periodization that builds FTP strategically, structured intervals that develop your threshold and VO2max capacity, race-specific preparation that teaches your body to hold power when conditions are tough, and a fueling and hydration plan that optimizes your performance without weighing you down.

  • Builds FTP through strategic periodization and power-based training designed for your goals
  • Develops race-specific fitness through work at threshold, VO2max, and anaerobic power
  • Creates and tests a fueling and hydration strategy for events and long rides
  • Programs strength and mobility work to prevent injury and maintain power through the season
  • Designs race tactics and pacing strategy based on your power profile and target events
  • Monitors training load week to week and adjusts for fatigue, life, and how your body is responding

A Generic Plan
Doesn't Know Your Power.

A PDF plan can tell you to do 5x5min at threshold. It can't tell you what your actual threshold is. It doesn't know whether you've recovered from last week's hard rides. It doesn't account for the century coming up or the gravel event you're building toward. Your coach does — and adapts in real time.

Power-Centric Design

We build your training around your FTP and power zones, not generic pace targets. Every interval, every long ride, every recovery session is calibrated to your actual power data. Your coach tracks your power curve across all energy systems and periodizes training to improve the systems that matter most for your goals.

Adaptive Programming

Life happens. Bad sleep, stress, fatigue, travel — your coach adjusts the intensity, volume, and structure of your training week to week based on how your body is responding. The plan evolves based on your power files and how you're actually performing, not what was written months ago.

Real Human Accountability

Not an app. Not a PDF template. Your coach who has spent years developing their own cycling fitness, watches your power files every week, knows your specific event, and is personally invested in helping you reach your cycling goals with confidence.

The 1:1 Coaching Model

A real human who understands cycling, analyzes your power files week-to-week, knows your goal events and your power profile, and is fully invested in helping you develop the fitness and tactics to perform at your best.

01

Assessment & Fit Test

We review your cycling history, current fitness level, your goal event, your schedule, and what you want to achieve on the bike — then match you with a coach and conduct your FTP assessment to establish your baseline power zones for training.

02

Periodized Training Plan

Your coach builds a periodized plan around your event date, current FTP, and life schedule. Base building, build phase, competition phase, recovery — all calibrated to develop the specific power systems you need for your goal.

03

Weekly Power Analysis & Coaching

Every week you upload your power files and connect with your coach — reviewing how you responded to the training, your power metrics, and discussing anything that needs adjustment. Your plan evolves based on actual performance data.

04

Race Strategy & Tactics

Your coach develops a detailed race plan based on your power profile, the course, and your goal. What pace to hold, where to attack, how to manage your watts, what fueling to use — you show up with a race plan that works.

05

Post-Event Debrief & Planning

The data tells the story. Your coach reviews your power output, how you executed your race plan, what worked, what you'd change — and uses it to plan your next build cycle and inform your training progression.

Power is
built
in training.

The race or century is where you deliver it. But the real work happens in the months before — in the intervals where you build FTP, the long rides where you practice nutrition, and the recovery weeks where your body adapts and gets stronger. Your coach makes sure every session moves you closer to your power goal.

More Than Miles

Cycling fitness isn't just about volume. It's about building power strategically — developing the specific energy systems that make you faster, stronger, and more capable on the bike.

FTP Development

Your threshold is your power ceiling. We systematically raise your FTP through threshold intervals, tempo work, and lactate accumulation sessions. Your coach structures these strategically within your training cycle so they drive adaptation without breaking you down.

VO2Max & Anaerobic Work

Shorter, harder intervals build your capacity to produce peak power and sustain it. Your coach programs these at the right frequency and intensity within your periodization — developing the neuromuscular power that makes you faster on climbs and in attacks.

Endurance & Base Building

Long rides at moderate intensity build your aerobic engine and teach your body to sustain power for hours. Your coach structures these rides with purpose — some at steady pace, some with tempo blocks, some with race simulation to prepare you for event demands.

Fueling & Hydration Strategy

On the bike, what you consume becomes your power. Your coach helps you dial in carb intake, electrolyte balance, and hydration timing based on your body and your event. Everything is tested in training so it's dialed on race day.

Strength, Mobility & Prevention

Off-bike strength work builds the stability and power you need on the bike while protecting against injury. Your coach prescribes targeted strength work and mobility drills that support your cycling training and keep you healthy through the season.

Real Results.
Real Relationships.

"I was stuck at 285W FTP for two years until I started coaching with Brent. He completely changed how I think about periodization. Instead of grinding every ride, he showed me how to structure intensity, when to back off, and how to peak at the right time. Six months later my FTP is 325W and I feel stronger than I ever have. The power is real and so is the confidence."
— Marcus R., 38  ·  FTP + 40W in 6 Months
"I'm a busy dad and I thought cycling coaching would eat my life. Shawn designed a plan that fit my 8 hours a week. He was smart about intensity, we did a lot of structured indoor work in winter, and he never made me feel guilty about life getting in the way. My first century was this fall and I crushed it. Finished strong and ready to sign up for another."
— Tom H., 44  ·  Century Finisher
"Nicki helped me come back to cycling after a knee injury I thought would end my season. She understood that I wasn't the same rider I was before and she designed my return around that reality. No comparison mindset, just 'let's build you back stronger.' I hit my power numbers from before I got hurt and then some. Best coaching decision I ever made."
— Sarah M., 41  ·  Comeback Cyclist
"I bought a power meter thinking it would solve everything. Turns out I was just training wrong. Brent showed me how to read my power files and structure intervals so they actually made me faster. My average power on climbs went up 15%, my FTP climbed 8%, and for the first time in years I feel like I understand what training is actually supposed to do."

Everything You Need to Know

Do I need a power meter?

A power meter provides precise training data and is ideal for power-based coaching. But you don't need one to start — many athletes begin with heart rate and perceived effort. A good coach can work with whatever data you have. Most athletes upgrade to a power meter after experiencing the benefits of power-based training.

How long until I see FTP improvements?

Most cyclists see measurable FTP gains within 8–12 weeks of structured training, typically 5–10% in that first cycle. Continued improvements come through periodized programming, strategic intensity, and smart recovery. Your coach structures your season to hit FTP peaks at the right times.

How long should I train for a century?

A structured century plan typically runs 12–16 weeks of specific preparation. But total preparation depends on your current fitness base. If you're new to long rides, a longer build of 4–6 months is more sustainable. Your coach builds a realistic timeline and periodizes your training to arrive strong and confident.

Indoor trainer or outdoor riding?

Both. Indoor training offers controlled conditions and precise power measurement. Outdoor riding builds bike handling and adapts you to real conditions. The best approach uses both — structured indoor work in off-season, outdoor riding for race tactics and confidence building. Your coach uses each strategically.

Is cycling coaching worth it?

Cycling coaching ensures your training hours produce results. Our coaches design periodized plans specific to your goal, prevent overtraining, manage recovery intelligently, and develop race tactics that separate strong riders from fast ones. Most athletes report faster times, fewer plateaus, and more enjoyment after working with our coaches.

Can you coach gravel and mountain biking?

Absolutely. The power-building principles are the same across disciplines. Our coaches have experience in road, gravel, and mountain biking. Your coach adapts periodization, intensity, and tactics to your specific discipline and events while building versatility across multiple riding styles.
